BA SON CORPORATION AND VIETNAM ENVIRONMENTAL INCIDENT RESPONSE CENTER: PROACTIVE PREVENTION AND MAINTENANCE OF OIL SPILL RESPONSE CAPABILITIES

Industrial manufacturing, ship building, ship repair, mechanical fabrication, machinery and equipment operations, as well as maritime services, all harbor inherent risks of environmental incidents, including oil spills. Given the diverse nature of its operations, ensuring safety and environmental protection remains a top priority for Ba Son Corporation throughout its production and operational management.

The SOS Center’s Oil Spill Incident Response Station

To proactively prevent and enhance response capabilities in the event of an incident, Ba Son Corporation has collaborated with the Vietnam Environmental Incident Response Center (SOS Center) to implement training programs, practical workshops, and emergency drills, while maintaining continuous response readiness through the SOS Response Station located directly at Ba Son.

Proactive Risk Prevention Across Operations

As an enterprise operating in defence industry and economic sectors, Ba Son Corporation carries out numerous manufacturing, technical, and service activities related to maritime and industrial fields. Throughout these processes, the utilization, storage, and transport of fuel and lubricants, alongside machinery operations, pose potential risks of leaks and oil spills if not strictly controlled.

Consequently, alongside compliance with occupational safety and environmental protection regulations, oil spill preparedness and prevention require continuous attention. Proactively building response capabilities mitigates the risk of incident escalation, minimizes environmental impacts, and ensures safe operational continuity.

Collaborative Training, Workshops, and Emergency Drills

Within the framework of cooperation, the SOS Center supports Ba Son in enhancing environmental awareness and practical response skills for key personnel on-site.

Training sessions, technical workshops, and drills focus on hazard identification, incident notification protocols, task force organization, deployment of response assets and equipment, as well as inter-departmental coordination mechanisms during emergency situations.

Through hands-on exercises, participating personnel familiarize themselves with initial response procedures, enhance tactical coordination, and build confidence when handling real-world incidents. These exercises also serve as valuable opportunities to review response plans, evaluate readiness levels, and promptly identify areas for further refinement.

Maintaining the SOS Incident Response Station at Ba Son

A key highlight of the collaboration between the two entities is the continuous operation of the SOS Incident Response Station at Ba Son.

The station serves as an operational base for maintaining 24/7 standby readiness, mobilizing response forces, and deploying specialized equipment for oil spill response upon request. Positioning the station directly within Ba Son’s facility enhances proactive readiness and facilitates seamless coordination between the SOS Center and local teams during prevention and response operations.

Combining the SOS Center’s specialized workforce, technical expertise, and extensive field experience with Ba Son’s proactive operational management establishes an organized response foundation, shifting away from reactive measures after an incident has already occurred.

By maintaining the response station and conducting periodic training and drills, Ba Son Corporation and the SOS Center aim to enhance operational readiness, minimize environmental risks, and safeguard ecosystems throughout the enterprise’s ongoing operations.
